Magazine cover learner response
Magazine front cover - Learner response
1) Add your finished magazine cover as a JPEG image.
2) Type up your feedback from your teacher. If you've received this by email, you can copy and paste it across - WWW and EBI. You don't need to include a mark or grade if you don't want to.
WWW: Jaspreet, you have produced a satisfactory product which somewhat recreates the brand identity of Vogue magazine. Your application of knowledge and understanding of media language is evidenced through your colour scheme and masthead style and positioning on your front cover. These elements communicate generally clear meanings throughout the product and would engage a potential audience.
EBI: I admire your evaluative comments about ensuring your most organised around time to ensure you captured better images for your front cover. Having a schedule is crucial for A Level Media coursework especially when you have other factors impacting you in Year 13 so try not to make the same mistake in a few months. I think the layout of your cover lines in relation to your cover model could have been improved, having a cover line on the back of someone’s head is unconventional so be careful of this for future print work. Also consider the style of your font, some italics are fine, but I think you have too many which then loses impact of what you’re trying to achieve.
3) Consider your mark against the mark scheme above. What are the strengths of your production based on the the mark scheme? Think about magazine cover conventions and the media language techniques you have used to communicate with your audience (e.g. mise-en-scene, camera shot etc.) Notice the focus on narrative in the mark scheme for Media language.
Strengths- colour scheme, masthead, positioning and most magazine conventions were met
Weaknesses- scheduling planning ahead of time, positioning the cover lines correctly/ more accurately and also rearranging the font choices to create a more meaningful effect.
4) Look at the mark scheme again. What can you do to move your mark higher and, if required, move up a level?
I can more accurately position the cover lines and have a better understanding of a few of the magazine conventions and use an image that can more accurately display the effect of a real magazine to improve it.
5) What would be one piece of advice you would give a student about to start the same magazine cover project you have just completed?
Try and understand how each of the magazine conventions can accurately create meanings within real life magazines and use them to do so yourself and just make the layout correct and nicely shown with an image that would stand out.
